A weekend in Malta with my Mum!

What: A weekend in Malta
When: October 2015
Distance from home: 1293 Miles
Length of adventure: 2 nights

Details: As it’s getting colder in London, Mum and I decided to get a bit of sunshine. We didn’t want to go too far and only really wanted to go for a weekend so Malta seemed like a good choice.

What did we do? Arriving Saturday afternoon we spent the rest of the day exploring the back streets of Valletta which is the capital of the island and where we were staying. That night we ate in DOffice, a restaurant tucked away on a quite back street. There we ate local food and drank Maltese wine, which was really good.

Sunday morning we went on an adventure across the island on the bus to Mdina. Mdina is a medieval walled town that is really pretty and I believe was where part of Game of Thrones was filmed!

In the evening we went to the Upper Barrakka Gardens to watch the sun setting on the three cities before dinner at The Harbour Club which overlooks the Grand Harbour. It was warm enough to eat outside and while we were eating there were fireworks going off on the other side of the harbour. Looking back if I hadn’t been with my Mum it would have been very romantic.

The next morning we had a wonder round St John’s Co-Cathedral which is one of the most impressive churches I have ever been in – everything is painted gold! So much gold! We then had a lovely lunch before heading to airport to go home.

All in all, though it was a short trip, it was long enough to see the main sites, eat local food, drink local wine and enjoy the sunshine.
